Franz Liszt Academy and Museum

Gát was a student at the Liszt Ferenc Academy (originally the Royal National Hungarian Academy of Music, re-named in 1925 after the founder).

The old academy was founded in Liszt's home and was housed there from 1875 - 1907. The building was repurchased by the Academy in 1980's and is now the Franz Liszt museum.

The museum was just 2 rooms, but there were quite a few of Liszt's personal belongings. This is a cabinet with his books and music.

His desk was built and given to him as a gift by piano maker Bösendorfer. The middle drawer allowed this 3 octave keyboard to slide in and out.

Chickering piano made especially for Liszt with a silver music holder made for him as a gift with the busts of Beethoven, Weber and Schubert on it.

They made us wear these shoe booties which gave us duck feet.

They built the new academy building in 1907.The new academy was under construction while we were there so we weren't able to go inside, but Eszter had told us that we wouldn't be able to find much there. Knowing that, we still wished we could have just walked around for a bit.

It was very hard to get a picture of the entire building, unobstructed.
